"As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." - Psalm 103:13

On this Father's Day, we celebrate the vital role that fathers play in nurturing, guiding, and loving their children and families. A father's love reflects God's profound compassion and care for His children.
My life has been blessed with a great father. I have beautiful memories of walking Civil War battlefields, exploring national parks, getting sunburned at Ocean City, MD, swimming in the waves, going camping, times of sitting around and singing. Thank you for being a great Dad! Thank you for providing for us, loving us, and setting an example of hard work, respect, and fun!
The Hebrew word "Abba" means "daddy." It is an intimate word. One Jesus used often when praying to His Father in Heaven. Like our Heavenly Father watches over us with infinite love, devotion, and mercy, our earthly fathers strive to provide for their children's needs - physical, emotional, and spiritual. A loving father is a protector, provider, teacher, role model, and friend throughout all the seasons of life.
We learn so much about God's love by observing the love of a good father. Our fathers teach us patience, sacrifice, strength, and unwavering commitment. Their tender affections let us experience a glimpse of how deeply God cherishes each of His children.
Despite their human imperfections, fathers embody the heart of our Heavenly Father in the ways they nurture their families. A father's love is a love that comforts and a love that corrects - consistently wanting what is best for their families, even when it is difficult. A father delights in their children's accomplishments and achievements, there is genuine pride and joy.
A loving father also disciplines and guides when necessary, not from a place of anger or selfishness, but from a heart that seeks to instill wisdom, good judgement, and an ethical compass that will serve their child well. Just as God gently leads those He loves toward the path of righteousness, fathers steer their children through life, with all of its bumps, bruises, and potholes.

This Father's Day, I give thanks for our fathers and grandfathers who have loved us, provided for us, comforted us, and set for us an example of sincere faith and strong moral character. Their sacrifices, big and small, have enriched our lives immeasurably.
We also pray for those who had imperfect or absent father figures, that they may experience the everlasting love and embrace of our Heavenly Father, who is to the fatherless "a defender of widows." We ask God to shower His profound blessings on all fathers who strive to uphold the honored and sacred role of being a dad.
On this Father's Day, let's remember the incredible love the Lord has for each of us, a love mirrored in the life of an exceptional father. Whether our fathers are still with us or have gone on to be with Jesus, we cherish the living spiritual legacy of love, strength, and provision they have modeled for new generations.
