"Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy." - 1 Peter 1:8
Our lives are filled with busyness, responsibilities, and an unending list of things to do. From work to childcare to chores to commitments, the days can feel like a constant rush. It's easy to get caught up in simply trying to get through each day and check things off the list. However, when our focus is only on what we have to do next, we miss out on so much joy that God has placed all around us in the simple, everyday moments.
Don't always focus on the next, focus on the now.
God didn't just create the extraordinary sunsets or vast landscapes that take our breath away—He handcrafted every little detail of this world with artistry and care. He breathed creation as a tapestry of color. He knit us together in our mothers' wombs and knows the number of hairs on our heads. If He has taken such care in creating all things, you can be sure He wants us to find delight in the beauty and wonders that surround us each day when we open our eyes to them.
A warm cup of coffee, the smile of a child, a good conversation with a friend, a dog waiting excitedly for a walk, the way the light filters through the trees—these are the kinds of ordinary yet delightful gifts the Lord places in our path daily if we have the eyes to see them. We miss so much when we rush through life and aren't present to appreciate each moment as it comes.
When our minds are consumed with worry over the future or regret over the past, we are not fully experiencing the gift of today that God has given us. Jesus beckons us to have childlike faith, to observe how the birds and the flowers do not toil yet are cared for, and to trust that He will provide for our needs as well (Matthew 6:25-34). Taking time each day to breathe deeply, look around, and express gratitude for the small blessings drives worry away and allows us to experience joy.
The more we practice being present and finding delight in the simple pleasures of everyday life, the more our hearts will be attentive to the fingerprints of God's beauty and care all around us. Though the cares of this world are real, they pale in comparison to the eternal love and delight the Lord takes in us as His children - in YOU! When we share in that childlike delight in everyday moments, we honor the Lord and experience the "inexpressible and glorious joy" that comes from walking closely with Him.
I am praying for you today.
